it is a mark of how befuddled i was when i awoke that despite repeated explanations on the radio it was not until 11 am that i fully grasped the clock moving. some jolly fun in spitalfields last night, had a few beers and was somewhat beastly to peter. good times. my holiday has passed all too quickly, but there you are. i think i am going to go back to bed.

ahoy. quick word on l'enclume - it is very good fun, but the waiting staff are a bit faulty towers. best things i ate were a kind of frozen liquid chocolate stone and a lovely foie doughnut thing. the two names before me in the bookings register had se1 and se10 postcodes. i have been doing very little this weekend apart from cooking/eating and making sloe gin which, i suppose, is a kind of cooking anyway. i went to the john lewis foodhall today which is just like waitrose but with more staff and a better layout. bad luck to blighty about the rugby, but there you go. it all went much better than i would have predicted, had i predicted, although to be honest i have seen very little of it indeed. my poor old dad will not be cheered by the result, though cheering he doubtless deserves.

i went to see control the other day and i can only recommend it in the highest terms. i want to get the clothes - samantha morton's tracksuit, drab trousers, braces. been listening to joy division a bit too. it is great. went up the bridge sunday night which was fun, though a bit mad what with all the undergrads looking like children and that. wine shop still top hole. going to l'enclume later this week - i may report back with detail.
