over the weekend there were two major observations available to close watchers of me: i began the move into my new flat and i managed to do 3 hour / 63° duck eggs (ref bras/bains/etc.. ) on a gas hob using only a thermometer and a john le carre novel to help me.

When I was a young man, pots were terribly expensive. We used to cook duck eggs inside the duck itself, using a "duck fan" to raise its temperature. It was an exhilarating experience - not least for the duck - who would inevitably snuff it.
They were simpler days but, in a way, better.
