two themes for the weekend so far: france (renoir, confit lust, sodom and gamorrah) and psychoanalysis (mike brearly radio program, persona). persona is certainly an interesting film: bergman is clearly a bit unhinged, but bibi anderson, liv ullman and sven nykvist are all on barn storming form. the renoir show is just great, i did not realise that i liked his paintings so much. perhaps i didn't untill i read about elstir and hawthorn blossom and so on.
