last night e and i had a charming late dinner at le relais de venise - i would recommend this to carnivores everywhere and should mention specifically the house bordeaux which was a steal. i saw goz today which was jolly and reminiscent of happy days gone by. the week has fairly sped past and i think i am a bit dazed at the pace of things just now. perhaps a relatively quiet evening at a pub will sort me out.

this has been a rather busy week so i guess i will just summarise the week's dining: e made a delicious roast chicken, we shared a fairly gigantic rib of beef at anchor and hope, friday evening saw some fairly good tapas at barrafina (though the memories of madrid remain) and yesterday lunch at quo vadis. this last yielded a pretty great rum baba, but i found the service to be a bit irritating. in the evening i made a salad of pea shoots and black pudding to go with some champagne, and poached a couple of pears in claret. lets hope this week is a bit less stressful, and that i find time to do more cooking myself.

so we have returned from madrid, sated and in my case perhaps slightly overwhealmed by a surfeit of tinto. notable eatings from second half of our trip include pickled quail and sweetbreads at danxari, some percebes, chickpeas with squid and delicious foie in PX at unspecified bars. i have also identified an excellent reason to return: lampario was on the menu at a number of the mariscarias which we strolled past. given my fondness for eel it surely represents the next stage in my progression of spanish sea fruit.
